Boulangerie Bakery

A small new (business) Place was added today; Boulangerie Bakery in Wallingford. Take a walk around!

The Bakery is run by a friendly, older Vietnamese gentleman who has been a baker for his whole life.  He seems passionate about his baking!

One more business added to the RealPlaces Wallingford community (14 at last count; let us know if you’d like to be added).

Site design update

Let’s see how many people are actually reading this blog, shall we?

We’ve been busy creating a new look for RealPlaces, starting with a brand new home page. It’s available right now for anyone and everyone to try at: Note that the rest of the site has not been updated, so clicking off to other pages will bring you back to the “old look”.

Please give it a look, try it out and tell us what you think!  You can either leave a comment here on the blog or send private feedback to us via our Contact Page.

Place interlinks!

RealPlaces now supports linking Places together.  On the overhead map view you’ll see << indicators on spots that are linked to other Places.  And as you’re walking around, if you see the name of another place above or below the green move-forward icon on the first-person view, then if you proceed forward you will move to the indicated Place.

Place interlinks can only be created by admins, so please let us know if you would like to link one of your Places to another published Place.  Eventually we plan to allow established contributors to create and manage interlinks, but it’s not a high priority at this time. Of course you can always let us know if you think differently and would like to influence our priorities!

Not A Number (cards & gifts)

Check out this store in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. Not just because it looks amazingly chaotic (it does, doesn’t it?), but check out the merchandise in some of the more than 100 zooms (close-up images)! Loads of really fun stuff in a wild and crazy store.  Where else can you find George Bush in a purple negligee standing right next to The Dancing Rabbis?

You’ll be seeing more business interiors on RealPlaces as we move forward.  We’ve found that many businesses are quite eager to let potential customers browse their stores, as it helps with a sense of attachment, encouraging people to both come visit in person and place web or phone orders.

If you’re the owner of a brick-and-mortar business and would like to allow your potential customers to peruse your store from the comfort of their own home, please let us know.

QuickStart coming soon

We’re working on a quick-start page, with video/screencast to help new users get started. Creating your own place to share with others might look intimidating at first glance, but once you see how easy it is, you’ll find yourself wanting to do it all the time!

If you have thoughts about something that should be in the quick-start, please leave a comment.

RealPlaces blog begins

First Post!

Okay, not very funny, but immutably true.

This is where you’ll find ongoing news and commentary related to RealPlaces.  Don’t expect a constant stream of regular posts, as we’re not prolific bloggers. We’ll post when we have new site updates or features, new Places of particular interest, or whatever strikes our collective fancy.  Enjoy.

[update: Comment moderation is turned on.  You are free to leave comments without waiting for moderation after we have approved at least one of your comments.]
